Week In Review
The tax cuts that we passed last year have empowered people to keep more of the money they earn and have put our economy on an upwards trajectory. So, this week we passed three bills to lock in these tax cuts and make them permanent for individuals and families.
This was a big week for our community and the headliner is that the House of Representatives passed a bill to authorize the EAA Southern Storage Reservoir. Together, we can get this reservoir across the finish line!
This week the Army Corps testified before Congress and I pressed them on the need for a human health and safety standard to stop discharges. I also introduced a new bill that would make public health and safety the top priority for the management of Lake Okeechobee.
To hear more about the water task force meeting this week and bills we passed to improve healthcare, help veterans and strengthen our national defense, watch this week's week in review video.
I will not allow important questions to go unanswered. I will continue fighting until human health and safety on the Treasure Coast is made a priority!
We are in a war for our water - for the health and safety of our families, our environment and our local economy. The way I was raised and the way I was trained in the military, you always go back out the next night and bring the fight again with everything you have. I will keep doing that every day. That’s how I fight for our water.
This week the River Kidz looked the Army Corps in the eyes and told them that they will no longer tolerate our community being destroyed. Our children shouldn't be forced to do this, but together, I'm confident we can make a real difference.
I see my mission in Congress the same as I saw it in the military: to keep our country and community safe. This week we passed more than 20 bills to combat the opioid epidemic, defend seniors from fraud and fight terrorism.
Our bills will take important steps to empower the healthcare workforce to improve addiction treatment and prevention, expand research into the opioid epidemic, stem the flow of illegal opioids flowing into our country and more.
It is unacceptable that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would discharge massive amounts of water into our community without knowing whether the water was safe. That's why I'm calling on them to immediately cease the discharges until they can prove that the water is safe!
