Week In Review
This week we were able to make big progress on a number of top priorities, including our water issues, efforts to stop Brightline, help for veterans and national defense. Read about some of what we got done that you might not have heard about on the news.
In addition to the bills we passed to help police, this week was also a big one for our work for veterans. We passed the VA MISSION Act to increase choice and improve care. And, I also had the honor of being named to join the Veterans Affairs Committee.
Small businesses are the backbone of the American economy. That’s why it’s critical that we empower aspiring business owners with tools and resources they can use to thrive. This week we passed several bills to do exactly that.
During my time in the Army, we worked together toward a serious mission: keep Americans safe and free. While I may no longer be an asset on the battlefield, as your Congressman, my core mission hasn't changed. Every day I go to work for you, it's with the goal of keeping Americans safe and free.
This week I had a singular mission: put taxpayers first. The good news is that this week we passed a desperately-needed overhaul of the IRS system. We also held a hearing in the Oversight Committee about abuse of taxpayer trust by Brightline.
In one of the most ridiculous and frustrating moves since I've gotten to Washington, 184 Members of Congress just teamed up to block a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution. I voted yes on this important bill, and I wish more of my colleagues would have done the same.
Our communities are safest when America is strongest. Last week we passed new legislation to strengthen school security and this week we took decisive action to protect American security at the highest levels - including our cyber security and national infrastructure network.
Our schools should be as safe as the halls of Congress. This week, we made strong progress toward that goal by passing two bills that I've been pushing forward.
One of my top goals in Congress is to make our community safe, healthy and strong. As a member of the Foreign Affairs committee, I'm working for strong national security, and right here in the 18th District, we're hard at work to protect our schools, combat the opioid epidemic and more.
This was a great week. We opened the first-ever office inside a VA facility. Next, we delivered RESULTS to prevent drilling off the coast of Florida. Finally, the good news for our economy has continued to pour in. Watch for more.
