For our community, there are few issues more pressing than the lack of clean, safe water, which has implications for everything from marine life to our economy.  We need to use every tool at our disposal to stop the destruction of our waterways. 

That’s why I just introduced a bill, called the Land and Water Conservation Fund Amendment Act, that will allow federal dollars directed to the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) to be used for projects that improve water quality!

Under current law, the LWCF is used to conserve lands and protect recreation opportunities throughout the country.  But, as many Floridians know, recreation opportunities are often restricted thanks to toxic algae blooms that are dangerous to breathe or touch.  

This bill would allow LWCF dollars to address one of the largest obstacles to water recreation by funding projects that improve water quality, such as regulating discharges into the St. Lucie and septic to sewer conversions. 

This bipartisan legislation will give us another tool in our belt to address one of the biggest problems for our region.
