Week in Review: One year into America's Golden Age-1

This was a pivotal week in Washington, from funding our government to meeting with leaders from across the globe. Let’s dive into all of it.

Earlier this week, I had the honor of hosting Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize recipient, María Corina Machado, to speak with the House Foreign Affairs Committee. She demonstrated herself to be a capable leader, and like many of you, I look forward to seeing the peaceful transition of power in Caracas. Venezuelans are one step closer to living in a free and democratic nation thanks to the President’s peace through strength agenda.

On the House floor, all twelve of 2026’s appropriations bills have officially been passed by the House. Next they’ll move on to the Senate and then the President’s desk to keep the federal government open ahead of the January 30th deadline.

And it’s been one full year since President Trump’s inauguration. Here in Congress, we’re working hand-in-hand with the administration to restore strong leadership on national security, economic opportunity, and putting Americans first. Gas prices are down, military recruitment is up, and the American dream is back. There’s more work ahead, but we have a clear path and I look forward to everything we’ll accomplish this year.

Watch all of this—and more—in this edition of Week in Review.

Fighting for life at every stage-1
Young families in need should have access to necessary prenatal vitamins, formula, diapers, and every resource America’s non-profit support centers offer. It’s support for mothers who choose life. I’ll always fight for life.

PASSED: Veteran Scam and Fraud Evasion Act-1
Yesterday, I voted to pass legislation to protect America’s veterans from scams, fraud, and financial exploitation. This legislation is critical and overdue—in 2023, the Federal Trade Commission reported that U.S. veterans and military retirees experienced a total of $350 million in fraud losses.

New endorsement for the “Medal of Sacrifice”-1
The National Police Association officially endorsed the Medal of Sacrifice Act—legislation I introduced to ensure that if a law enforcement officer or first responder is killed in the line of duty, their sacrifice is recognized forever in the form of an official medal—straight from the office of the President.

T&I: Ensuring our gulf remains safe-1
The bottom line is that illegal oil trafficking through substandard vessels threatens our environmental well-being and national safety—that’s why it demands oversight.

Fair & affordable drug prcing-1
Americans were promised affordable and reliable healthcare. Unfortunately, this has not been the case. Premiums have skyrocketed, options narrowed, and our prescription drug prices became among the highest in the world—while other countries paid a fraction of the cost for the same medications.

We are officially back for the second session of the 119th Congress—and it’s been a packed week in Washington.

First, I’d like to address last weekend’s Operation Absolute Resolve—the successful capture of the illegitimate Venezuelan leader, Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. On Monday, I was briefed by Secretary of State, Marco Rubio; Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth; and several other Administration officials. It’s clear to me that this was a decisive law enforcement action that made our own backyard safer. It was an unequivocal success..

On the domestic front, I have some big news: the House of Representatives just advanced legislation that includes the highest level of funding for Everglades restoration ever included in an appropriations package. This is funding we’ve fought for year after year, and while it’s still short of the full amount needed, I’m encouraged by the significant increase we secured this year.

All of this, along with my thoughts on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, are part of the latest Week in Review.
